Burial at Sea

SeaBurials offers full body burials at sea aboard our large charter vessel. A full body burial at sea involves the interment of a deceased person’s body in the ocean, allowing for a natural and respectful way of laying them to rest. Our large vessel offers ample space for up to 40 people, air-conditioning cabin and bathroom. Our crew members are very experiences and caring in your time of need.

Preparation: The body of the deceased is prepared for burial, much like in a traditional funeral service. This may involve embalming or other preservation methods depending on the wishes of the deceased and their family. All preparation is done by the Funeral Home service. Please check to ensure your funeral director has experience in burials at sea. If you need a recommendation, please call us.
Transportation: The body is transported by the funeral and family directly to our charter vessel. We have parking directly behind our vessel just steps away from boarding. Our vessel features a large door to easily on-load the coffin. Our crew will handle all the heavy lifting.

Ceremony: Our facilitator and funeral director will come together to provide a ceremony aboard our vessel. This could involve religious rites, personal tributes, or other rituals depending on the cultural or religious preferences of the deceased and their family. As an all-inclusive service we provide all flowers and drinks. We have additional services such as video memorials, biodegradable wreath and more.
Burial: Our crew will place coffin respectfully in the ocean, typically within a biodegradable casket or shroud designed to break down naturally in the marine environment. The location for the burial is about 6 miles offshore and 100o feet of water. The entire trip from dock to dock takes about 3 hours.
Documentation: In coordination with the funeral home and EPA, SeaBurials.com assists with all necessary documentation and permits required for a burial at sea, ensuring that the process is conducted legally and in accordance with regulations.

Burials at sea can be a meaningful option for those who have a strong connection to the ocean or for those who wish to have a more environmentally friendly form of burial. It allows the deceased to return to nature in a serene and peaceful setting.
